Labor Day Weekend in Review.

I thought things would slow down and I'd have more time to blog when summer ended and school started. Oh I was wrong, so very wrong!! I've been busy with tons of different things! At least I'm not bored!!

Anyways, I know it's a little late, but I thought before another weekend begins I should blog about our long Labor Day Weekend! We were pretty happy to have a fairly quiet family weekend here at home.

On Friday, along with Meme & Pepe, we headed out to check out a new Sam's Club that opened not to far from us. We bought a few things and then headed home to bed.

Saturday morning the kids, Meme and I headed over to the Church for a Primary Activity. The kids had a lot of fun with their friends. They played scripture related games and enjoyed the company of their friends.

Then we headed home with hopes of getting a few things done in Christopher's bedroom. Did that happen? Nope. Instead we headed to Lake Compounce. (Sorry no pics!)
Sunday, we went to Church and had Sunday Dinner with Meme & Pepe as usual. Then we came back home to finally get some things done in Christopher's bedroom.

Monday we went on our Third Annual Labor Day St. Lawrence Heublein Tower Hike. (Click on the following links to see pics from the First and Second years of our hike.2007 2008 ) For the second year, Meme & Pepe joined us. We missed you Aunt Val & Johann!! The weather was gorgeous! It was perfect--warm with a little touch of fall! The kids did a great job hiking. Christopher got a little tired, but Anneli kept going and going! Her and Pepe even beat us to the car. Way to go!

Then we headed home to rip the carpet out of Christopher's bedroom and get the floor ready to install the hardwood floor this week. Horray!! We'll have photos of his new bedroom soon!!
That was pretty much our weekend. Now we are looking forward to this weekend..

What!? No Balloons at the Balloon Festival!?

Yes folks, no balloons at the 25th Annual Plainville Fire Departments Balloon Festival!! Unfortunately, there were no fireworks either!

We look forward to the local Balloon Festival EVERY year. We love the fireworks on Friday night and the hot air balloons every morning and evening. (Click here) Last weekend (August 29 & 30) was a rainy, rainy weekend, (Thanks in part to Hurricane Danny and some other fronts passing through CT) so pretty much the Balloon Festival was canceled except for a few vendors, bands and the Fire Department that braved the cold rain!

Unfortunately, the Cub Scouts planned to have a booth to kick-off their Land's End Popcorn Fundraiser! Shaun, the Assistant Cubmaster, Wolf Den Leader & Popcorn Kernal, had been planning this event for a while. This was going to be their major fundraiser for the year--like the Fire Department! They HAD to set up anyway, right!? Yes--the Cub Scouts braved the rain and did an awesome job selling their popcorn in the cold rainy weather! Way to go guys! :)

Even Anneli braved the cold rain...

If you are interested in purchasing any Land's End Popcorn leave a comment or e-mail us at c.stlawrence@comcast.net.
We can get forward you further information.
It's super yummmy &
70% of your purchase goes right to Christopher, his Pack, and his Council!!
He gets 10% in his own account for Summer Camp, or other Scouting items or activities!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While we waited for the rain to subside a bit on Saturday morning, we took a quick trip to the CT Science Center--since Shaun hadn't been yet. It was a great way to spend a few warm & dry hours together.
What a great last weekend of summer---even if it was cold and rainy!
First Day of School 2009-2010
It's hard to believe that summer is over! Soon the crisp fall weather will be upon us, the leaves will be falling, and then the snow will start to fall... Sorry! I know I shouldn't get ahead of myself. Let's let school start first!
Anneli started school on Monday (August 31st). She's going to Preschool 3 days a week this year. Same place, same teachers, but new friends!!! She was excited to get all dressed up and head out with her new colorful LL Bean backpack. Fun, fun, fun!
Today (Tuesday, September 1st) was Christopher's first day of 2nd Grade! I'm having a hard time believing that my baby boy is in second grade!! Time sure does fly! He is growing taller and more mature every day! What a big guy! We are proud of you!!!
My smiley guy after school! Guess he had a great day!
So, where was I... Soon the crisp fall weather will be upon us, the leaves will change colors and fall from the trees, and then the snow will start to fall and pile up on the cold hard ground... ;)
Fun in the Sun at Rocky Neck Beach in CT
On Wednesday, August 26th, we spent the day at Rocky Neck State Park Beach with Aunt Valerie & Meme. It was a great way to just about end the summer!! Since everyone (but me!) goes back to school next week!
Christopher used to love how the train passes by along the beach when he was little and obsessed with trains... He didn't give it much thought this summer. My big guy is growing up.
Now he just wants to see a whale, dolphin or some other sea creature...
After playing in the sand and swimming in the ocean, we decided to go on an adventure out on the rocky neck of the beach.
While we were walking out on the rocky neck of the beach, a mother and her children were leaving and gave us their chicken legs so we could catch some crabs. The kids thought that was pretty awesome. So we caught some crabs... See the little crab hanging off the chicken leg?
While Christopher was crab fishing, he yelled out, "There's an eel over here!" We didn't quite believe him...
But it was! See it in the picture below?!
It was a strong creature. Check out how it thrashes the chicken leg around! Watch out for your fingers!!!
The kids were so excited! We almost caught an eel!!
What a great summer adventure!!
