Adventures in Canajoharie, NY

On Saturday, October 3rd, we packed up our new Volkswagon Routan mini-van and headed out on a three hour adventure to Canajoharie, NY to visit Aunt Donna, Uncle Jim, Soup-Mem and Ray. It was a rainy weekend, but we went anyway, and had a great time!!

We got there and ate a super yummy lunch!! Thanks Uncle Jimmy!

Then we piled into the van and headed to Bellinger's Orchard with Aunt Donna, Uncle Jim, Soup-Mem & Ray. Thankfully the rain had taken a bit of a break so we started out picking apples--all different kinds of super delicious apples! After picking TONS of apples, 2 1/2 bushels of apples to be exact, we decided to check out their Corn Maze.

The kids were pretty excited. The corn maze at Bellinger's Orchard is a 5 acre bat! As we went through the 'Bat Maze', we were on a scavenger hunt, looking for "letters" hidden in the maze. We had to collect all the "letters" and unscramble them. The only clue was that the "letters" were to spell a word associated with bats. We went running through the maze (in the pouring rain!! Of course the rain started as soon as we started our Corn Maze Advenutre with Aunt Donna & Uncle Jim!) collecting the letters. We got all the found all the hidden letters : "l, t, n, o, c, e, h, o, a, c, o, i", but unscrambling the word was difficult, until Christopher said, "Could it be "echolocation"? That's what it was! Way to go Christopher!!! What a smarty pants!!
As we finished the corn maze, the rain stopped and a beautiful rainbow appeared in the sky.

Look how muddy the kids were!!!!
Since the rain died down a bit, we decided to pick some pumpkins in the pumpkin patch. It was a little muddy, but it was a lot of fun going through the field trying to find that 'perfect pumpkin'! We found three of them to bring home! :)

The next day we piled into the van with Aunt Donna and Uncle Jim to the Utica Zoo. We were watching rain clouds the entire way, but the weather held up while we were there! YIPPEE! It's a cute little zoo with over 200 different animals. We all had a great time! Especially when Uncle Jim and the kids got the Gibbons singing and carrying on! Crazy monkeys!! ;)

The kids wanted to take this cute little fella home...
We had a great time in NY visiting with our family there!
Stay tuned for our next adventure...

Did You Miss Us!?

I can't believe that it's been over a month since I've posted last! Things are just bUzZiNg around here. I was hoping things would slow down once school started. (Yeah right!!!) That has definately not been the case. (What was I thinking!?!)
We've been running at full speed without much time left to blog or even to finish my upstairs bedroom renovation project!!! I'm almost done one room though!! Wooohooo!!
Let's see, what have we been up to this past month...

We bid farewell to an old friend ....
We than welcomed a new friend... (Volkswagon Routan Mini-Van)
We've been super busy with Cub Scouts.
Shaun's been busy with the Trail's End Popcorn Fundraiser. (If you are interested in purchasing any yummy boyscout popcorn leave a comment or e-mail us!)
He held a Popcorn Kick-Off.
Christopher also received his Wolf Hankerchief during our Pack's first Den Meeting of the year. (He's the one standing sideways with the #49 on his sleeve. His friend Alec, who is a Bear helped him put on his Wolf Hankerchief.)

He also received 12 Activity Belts that he earned during summer camp. He was so excited! We had a great time selling Popcorn at our Town's Block Party. We also represented our Cub Scout Pack at the Elementary School's Open House.

In between trying to sign up new scouts, we had the opportunity to check out Christopher's classroom to see where he sits and what his classroom is like. Christopher has a great teacher and loves second grade! He's a 'super speller' and LOVES to read--like me!! Then we enjoyed some yummmy ice cream sundaes thanks to the PTA! :yummm!!!

There was also the Annual Norton Park All Scout Camp-Out a few weeks back. The kids were able to build rockets with Shaun and Pepe and then they launched them at the park that weekend. Super fun!!! It was fun to watch how far their rockets went!!

At the end of the evening there was a campfire ceremony, where Anneli sat with her best bud Jared. (Our friend/Cubmaster's oldest son.) She even fell asleep sitting next to him at the camp fire. How sweet! Then Shaun, Christopher and Anneli camped out at the park. Yes, I'm not a big fan of camping, so I went home and slept. I didn't want the cat to be lonely... ;) yeah, that's it....

I've also been busy as Yearbook advisor for Christopher's school yearbook. I help out at lots of the events at school as I take pictWe had a Walk-a-Thon one day before the chilly weather got here! The kids had a blast walking around the school bus circle, jumping rope, and playing with hula hoops, as they raised money for their school! Super fun!

Stay tuned for our adventures in our new min-van....
