Columbus Day Weekend Getaway!

I know I'm rather late, but I wanted to post some pictures of our super fun--and exhausting Columbus Day Weekend Getaway. We left here on Thursday (October 8th) evening and drove to Washington, DC. We stayed in Maryland that night and then headed into DC on Friday morning. On Friday, we checked out a few of the Smithsonian Museums and then walked around the city. It was a great day!

On Saturday, we headed back to the capital and checked out the Washington Monument and the White House together. Then we jumped in the car and headed to one of our favorite places--the National Zoo! It was fun, but a little rainy! Oh well!

Next, we piled into our new van and headed to Duck, NC. Yes, I said Duck, NC---I know a little far for a weekend getaway, but we booked it through our timeshare and it was the only place available for Columbus Weekend along the NE Coast. So off we went! We arrived late--it was dark and rainy...

The next morning, we headed off to site see. We checked out the Wright Brother's National Park. The kids got some of their energy out as we walked up to the Monument. It was quite windy, but at least the rain held off until we almost got to the van!!

After that, we walked up the dunes to the shore. The kids enjoyed running along the shore and collecting seashells--even if the weather wasn't true beach weather! :)

Then we visited the Cape Hatteras Light House. Christopher & I climbed to the top. Anneli was too short, so Shaun and her checked out the visitors center and the grounds. It was pretty cool--a little high, but it was a great view! Christopher and I had a blast climbing to the top and taking pictures up there!

The resort we stayed at was beautiful and right on the shore. The kids had a great time swimming with dad in the pool--since the weather outside was quite rainy.

What a super fun family weekend getaway! It was tiring, but we had a great time! :)
