Happy 125th Anniversary to Our Fire Company!!

Saturday, June 12, was our local Fire Departments 125th Anniversary Parade. It was raining in the morning, but by the time the parade stepped off at 5:30pm, the rain had stopped! The sun peeked out a bit, and it ended up being a great day for a parade!

A memorial to our fallen Firefighters in town.

Happy 125th Anniversary to our Fire Department!
We can't wait to continue the celebration at the Balloon Festival in August!
Hopefully it doesn't rain....

Field Day FUN!!

Since I've been helping in Kindergarten this year, Anneli and I went and participated in Kindergartens Field Day last Monday. Anneli was a big girl and jumped in with Mrs. Hooper's Pink group while I went around and took pictures for yearbook and for an end of the year slide show. It was a great day!Friday was Field Day for the rest of the school. As usual, I was there taking pictures for the Yearbook! :) It was another great day for Christopher and all his friends!

I HATE Camping, but...

a few weeks ago, the weekend of June 4-6, we joined hundreds--actually thousands of Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts at the Eastern Mountain Sports / Connecticut Rivers Council Jamboree to celebrate 100 Years of Boy Scouting! We went as a family with a few other families from our local pack and had a great time! As the title of this post says, "I HATE Camping, but" I stuck it out for this great event! Good think you couldn't smell us in our family picture above. We were all sweaty and miserable!!

Look at all the scouts coming to the Opening on Saturday morning! It was awesome to look out and see the "sea of scouts"!

Here is our crew with our flags ready for the opening ceremony of the CT Rivers Jamboree with thousands of our scouting friends!
The event was held ate Hebron Fairgrounds in Hebron, CT. Approximately 10,000 scouts were there--camping out and enjoying the wonderful activities the council had planned! The Council did an excellent job squeezing all the Scouts in! The weather sort of cooperated. Severe thunderstoms and tornadic like weather passed all around us, but we were lucky and didn't have a storm. Instead the massive heat and humidity stuck with us all weekend! :) Woo Hoo!! You definately had to keep hydrated! Kids were dropping because of the heat left and right. Luckily, we kept well hydrated with our water, lemonade, and slushies from the super yummy slushy truck!
There were many activities there. The kids helped out and painted a bit of a Scouting Mural that will be traveling around to the different camps this summer.
We fell in love with this pretty bird of prey. I can't remember what kind of bird she is, but she had the most beautiful eyes. Not sure if you can see them in this picture, but the kids wanted their picture with it.
They also had a 'touch tank', which of course is a favorite of Christophers...

An exciting part of the event for us as a family was that there was geocaching at the Jamboree!!! There were 12 unofficial geocaches hidden at the Jamboree. We set out and found 7 or 8 of them, but then it just got toooooooo hot! Did we ever tell you how much we LOVE GEOCACHING!!!??
Here's a picture of one of the caches. Look closely.... Can you find it?
There was a craft barn, where they kids made a bunch of different things. That was one of our favorite activitites--for one we LOVE crafts and second, it was fairly cool in the barn and it was nice to relax from the oppressive heat in between geocaching!!!

Saturday night all the scouts gathered all together for a concert and lazer light show! The 'sea of scouts' was amazing!!!
We had the opportunity to hear Kristi Lee Cook sing live in concert! Don't know who she is? That's okay, we aren't American Idol fans either. She was the seventh place finalist on the seventh season of American Idol. I'm not sure why she was chosen to sing for 10,000 Boy Scouts, but the boys loved her! :) Thank goodness the rain held off while we were sitting there among the masses!
We had a great weekend---a bit sweaty and tired.....

but it was a lot of fun! :)
Happy 100 years of Boy Scouting!!!

Memorial Day Parade

Keeping with tradition, we all marched in our local Memorial Day Parade on Memorial Day.
Anneli was very excited because she was marching with her Soccer Team and NOT with the Cub Scout Pack!! :) She was sooooo excited and had a great time! She was one of the only kids who didn't complain about walking, and walking, and walking..... Way to go "Glamour Girl"!

Christopher and Shaun marched with their Cub Scout Pack. Christopher had a great time too holding the pack banner and the American Flag!
