Christopher the Carpenter!

Two weeks ago, Christopher and my dad spent the afternoon making Anneli a custom stool so she can reach the toilet and the sink by herself. She is getting tall, but she is pretty short and needs a taller stool than any one we can find. So Christopher and Pepe spent a few hours making her a perfect stool so she can reach the sink after going potty!

Still Sewing...

So I thought I'd be brave and try something different. My past two patchwork quilts were the same pattern--Yellow Brick Road. I was getting to be a pro at that patter but I wanted something new and different for my pretty purple prints. I decided to do a type of Charm Quilt and make my own pattern. I chose my shape, a half hexagon. I started ironing my pretty purple prints and cutting them out.

Then I tested out a few different ways I could sew them together. I tried a triangle, two hexagon patterns, and some random half-hexagon mumbo jumbo. UGH!! It's a little harder than I thought! I'm having some issues with the Y seams!

I don't want to give up, but I'm was hoping to sew this small lap quilt for my sister Valerie's birthday this month! If I want to get it done I think I'm going to have to change my pattern to this simple half-hexagons in rows. The more I look at it---I like it! I guess I'll have to challenge myself some other time!

It's raining, it's pouring....

It's been raining with a little thunder and lightning here all morning. We dropped Christopher off at his Kidz-R-Size Activity and Anneli and I came home to have a snack. I was able to catch her peeking out the window singing "It's raining, It's pouring...." I truly enjoy moments like this!
It's raining, it's pouring;
The old man is snoring.
He went to bed
Bumped his head
And he couldn't get up in the morning.

Do ya like my do?

A few weeks ago Christopher went with Shaun to get a hair cut and they were looking at books of different hair styles. He was happy to conclude that the "Messy look for guys is in!" So here is his version of the "messy look". He worked hard with mousse and everything to get the exact messy look he was looking for! Please ignore his dirty face!

Wear Red for Women Day!

Did you know??

  • Heart disease, stroke and other
cardiovascular diseases are the #1 killer of
    women in Connecticut.

  • Approximately 15 females a day died from
heart disease and stroke in Connecticut in
    2003

  • Heart disease and stroke accounted for
nearly 36% of all female deaths in
    Connecticut in 2003.

  • Heart disease alone is the leading cause of
death in Connecticut, accounting for 28.6%
of all female deaths in 2003.

  • In 2003, nearly 55% of all heart disease and
    stroke deaths in Connecticut residents
    occurred in females.

Aren't the above stats a little scary!? It could happen to anyone! It doesn't matter if you are young, old, in shape or not--heart disease could be inherited or related to some other uncontrolable factors! We as women need to take care of ourselves, be aware of the signs and symptoms of heart disease and stroke, and listen to our bodies!

This month, February, is American Heart Month and today is Wear Red for Women Day. Heart Health is an issue that is very close to my heart! (no pun intended!) Like I said above, it could happen to anyone. Three years ago in April I was experiencing some crazy heart palpitations, chest pains, being out of breath, light headedness, etc. It made me wonder...what does a heart attack feel like? A bunch of tests were done and they determined that I had some problems with my valves. I'm currently on medication, have a few limitations and I am monitored regularly by my cardiologist. At this point it it shouldn't be anything serious, but they can't make any guarentees and when it's your heart, you just never know! A Great Photo Tribute to President Hinckley

I came across this lovely slideshow photo tribute of President Gordon B. Hinckley, the 15th President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It's very touching...(click on the link below).
